Lisa Wong
Artist Profile
Haphazardly arranged interiors, goldfish drifting through space, and dense tropical foliage are all some of the variables that are displayed across the canvas of Malaysian artist, Lisa Wong Sook Kuan. An alumnus of the California College of the Arts with a BFA in Illustration, Lisa’s work has evolved from year to year: beginning her career with a series of intricate ink drawings and shifting to richly-coloured, imagined, interiors.
Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Lisa enjoys creating imaginary spaces from mundane, everyday objects. Sometimes borrowed, sometimes owned, the world depicted in each work contain items known to the artist in real life. Whether it be a pet goldfish, a birthday cake or the weeds in her garden, through the canvas they become something more otherworldly beyond their tangible forms.
Besides painting, Lisa enjoys long walks on the beach, cooking, and a tall glass of wine.

Mid-Breakfast invites us to linger in a quiet, imagined moment: buttered toast, Acqua di Parma, freshly baked croissants, and the sun’s gentle morning light.
Life’s simple pleasures offer a salve to the complications that trail behind us. This work is part of The Mind’s Internal Boudoir, a series of imagined spaces filled with objects that resonate with joy.
Through Mid-Breakfast, Lisa reminds us that imagination doesn’t need to conjure distant worlds; it can be discovered in the small, familiar pleasures of daily life if we pause to notice.
