Inspired by surfers, the lineup is an area in the water just outside of the breaking waves. Here, surfers sit on their surfboards, looking out to the horizon and waiting for their turn to catch the waves. This painting Line Up depicts the continuous rhythm of the waves. There will always be a wave for us to catch, even if we missed a previous one. And we will never know how thrilling the next wave will be!

Tender moments of the heart may be fleeting, but it is where the most precious and moving experiences take root. “Clarity” very much resembles the film effect we see in analog photography, with the warm yellow, orange and dark brown shades overlaying one another.
Just like analogue film cameras, when we click on the shutter of our hearts, we capture memories to be forever imprinted in our being. As we collect these memories, they become rolls of film, each one filled with moments of perfect and beautiful clarity.

This piece is inspired by a conversation about forgetting the past and straining towards what’s ahead. Drawing a line of distinction between the past and the fresh hope of possibilities. While still appreciating how past experiences have shaped our core self.
Artist Profile
Joanne Lim is drawn to the power of words. In her practice, Joanne uses words as parameters to imagine and express form. Her spontaneous and thoughtful works deviate from conventional calligraphic forms and are imbued with a distinctive sensibility. Originally trained in graphic design and with a background in advertising, she now focuses on creating art and teaching calligraphy. Her work has been exhibited at The Esplanade, Singapore and featured in various publications.

A vast expanse of stark, cream-white forms the canvas’s quiet ground. From it emerge blots and sweeping strokes of luminous green, bright earth-brown and deep, resonant blue — colours that seem to burst forth from the surface. Pools of light blue gather, hinting at hidden springs surfacing beneath parched terrain.
What was once scorching sand gives way to an oasis; thirsty ground yields to the promise of a life-giving river. Barren grasslands are reimagined as spaces of rich, quiet flourishing.
Inspired by Isaiah 35:7, Desert to Lush Lands speaks to seasons of barrenness and waiting. It invites viewers who find themselves in weary or trying moments to take courage and trust that renewal is not distant, but already breaking through.
