Inspired by the events of Christmas, "Silent Night" pays homage to Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” painting. On the night of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem, there were no rooms left in the local Inn. His mother Mary had to deliver him in a manger, a feeding trough for horses. At the time, Roman King Herod the Great heard the news that a new king of the Jews was about to be born. Herod feared a threat to his rule and immediately went after Jesus' life. Had Jesus been born in the local Inn, too many people might have known of his whereabouts, which would endanger his life. A closed door could sometimes be protection from harm and lead you to your destiny.

Inspired by the book of Ruth and done in a cubist style. Ruth was a Moabite (Jordanian) woman who pledged to stay by the side of Naomi, her Israeli mother-in-law, after her husband passed away. Even afer Naomi returned to her homeland of Israel, Ruth followed her. Benefiting from a custom where landowners would leave leftover grain in the fields for those in need, Ruth picked up the leftover barley to feed the two of them.
Everyone, including herself, thought that was her lot in life. In spite of that, she was thankful for the little that she had: the opportunity to pick up leftovers and the fact that she still had her mother in law after losing her husband. Eventually, the story of Ruth met with a happy ending when she remarried Boaz, the owner of the field. To honour her spirit of loyalty and fidelity, Ruth was abundantly blessed beyond her wildest imagination.

The term “Eye of the Tiger” is used to describe someone with focus and determination. A spirit of not giving up in the midst of difficulty. This is because tigers have night vision that can help them to see in the dark, up to six times better than the human eye. Likewise even in our dark times we need to keep seeing the good in every situation, in difficult people, and to navigate tough times like a champion tiger.

A fusion of modern abstract and Chinese painting styles, this piece was inspired by the story of Aaron’s Rod in the bible. The rod was endowed with miraculous power which saw flowers and ripe almonds grow out of it overnight. This reminds the artist of the fruitful life that God wants us to have. As long as we are rooted in the source of divine strength, our lives will blossom.

Sparrows are not only very small, they are one of the most common birds in the world. They look so similar to each other that it is often hard for us to distinguish them from each other. Yet scripture says that our heavenly Father knows each one of them uniquely and none of them gets hurt without Him knowing.

Artist Profile
Born in Indonesia, Swasti (b.1985) moved to Singapore with her family in 1990. She has a certificate in oil painting from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in Singapore, and taken courses in Concept Art and 3D modelling from CG Masters Academy and Gnomon Workshop online, giving her a strong foundation in both digital and traditional media. She is also currently studying Chinese Calligraphy under Multi award winning 安春来(An Chun Lai). Swasti hopes to continually grow as an artist and mastering the different techniques that have been passed down to her.
