Popularly known as CHIJMES, this historical building is a sight to behold - not just for its stunning architecture, but also the richness of its history.
Starting out in 1854 as a Catholic convent, it was not uncommon for unwanted babies to be abandoned at the gates of the building. These babies were then raised by the nuns within, received free education, and learned vocational and domestic skills. For over 100 years, countless little lives were turned around after entering that tiny gate, aptly known as “The Gate of Hope”.
Fast forward to 2024, the complex is now known as CHIJMES, a trendy dining and entertainment destination. The now-defunct chapel is a popular venue for weddings, with the most famous being Nick and Rachel, in the movie “Crazy Rich Asians”.
