Rushing Wind
CARISSA GAN
90 X 60 cm
Acrylic & pen on canvas (Framed)
2026
Rushing Wind is a dynamic, energetic abstract painting of sweeping dove-white brushstrokes, earthy neutrals and luminous gold. Inspired by the quiet seasons of waiting, it speaks of the unseen movement that can take place even when all seems still. A reflection on trusting the process, holding onto hope, and believing in a divine presence that is quietly at work, even before we see where the path leads.
Curator’s note:
There is an intentional sense of movement and abundance in Rushing Wind. Carissa took a more maximalist approach, building the work through layers of sweeping brushstrokes, defined edges and intuitive details. Yet midway through the process, she found herself uncertain of where the painting was heading. Rather than forcing it into a predetermined direction, Carissa allowed the work to develop organically, taking her time to build each layer and detail until the composition found its own balance.
In this process, Carissa came to see a quiet reflection of the divine: something unseen, yet present and at work even when the way forward is unclear. The title Rushing Wind captures this idea of movement that cannot always be seen, but can be felt, giving the painting a sense of energy, transition and unseen direction.
